Are You Diminishing Your Life?

by Sian on October 14, 2009

For those of ylocal governmentou who don’t know, I spent 20 odd years in local government.

Before you groan, on the plus side it gives a fascinating insight into the microcosm that passes as a life for some people.  These are the infuriating but hapless souls whose make their days glorious by complaining to the Council.

I truly believe that the magnitude of what you worry about sets the tone for the size of your life.  I’ll let you draw your own conclusions from this lot I’m about to describe.  All of these are true complaints not only received by the Council but investigated extensively because that is the unfortunate nature of some Councils – an overwhelming fear of saying no.

If you are wondering why you should care two hoots about these sad wingers then consider this…all the time the Council is looking into the whining of these burks, you are paying more Council taxes and the real issues are not being sorted.  It matters.

If you can sense a bit of a rant here – well you might be right, but it’s anger directed mostly at me for staying in this environment online amoxil for so long. Goodness knows why I didn’t leave sooner.  But that’s a story for another time. Fear is a terrible master.

I was going to change the names of these wallies.  After all, I don’t want to be sued.  And then I thought – how on earth will they ever find out?  All their time is spent gawping out the window snooping on what their neighbours are up to in case someone, western buy amoxil union india balbera somewhere, might be having fun. They really are not going to be on the internet looking for information about the world. So here goes…

Mr Adams, a delightful little person.  His main gripe concerns (note the present tense please) 3 acres of privately owned land surrounded by 8 foot hedges and open fields.  There is neither public access or visibility.  Apparently the owner is storing some rubbish on it.  Two Court Warrants and a full investigation later, which involved the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO), it was established there was no rubbish on site.  Mr Adams would need to trespass to see anything on the land at all, such was the visibility. Estimated cost in officer time, court costs and general malarky – £10, 000.

Mr Adams is still complaining and the Council is still responding.  About the same issue. He lives 3 miles from this house.  This time it’s the turn of the Environment Agency.

Miss Peabody continues to complain about a house which has been developed where she alleges the ridge height of the completed development was going to be 6 inches higher than it should be.  Please note her complaints were arriving before the house was actually started.  There was some flattened earth when she set off with the moaning.  At this stage the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) got involved.  Letters and officers went back and forth from the site in the coming year until finally the house was complete.  The Council paid for the completed development to be surveyed.  The ridge height was 4 inches lower than the agreed plan.  Total cost of this moaning I estimate at £11,500.

How to pick a winner?  That will have to wait until next time because I’m going away to have a think…

Who was it who said “Don’t sweat the small stuff.

And it’s all small stuff.”

She co-founded Stormchasers Ltd with her husband Mark, runs a internet marketing training group for small businesses, is a writer, blogger, Master NLP Practitioner and business coach. Sian works with the famous internet marketer, Tracy Repchuk, and manages Tracy's internet forum. Sian & Mark contribute jointly to the Ex-armed Forces Club and their blog, Leaving The Armed Forces, the programme to support anyone leaving the armed forces (surprisingly enough). Oh, and they help small businesses with a boring old website sitting around like a lump of toffee stuck down the back of the sofa, to get a dynamic and fluffy blog.
